“I think that there was a
moment after they scored that we started
to control the game,” Pachuca
coach Enrique Meza said. “I
was happy with the way the team was
moving the ball at this point. I think
the level of play in MLS has improved.”
Ante Razov opened the scoring in the
16th minute when he accepted a feed
from Sacha Kljestan and blasted a
shot from 30 feet out past Pachuca
goalkeeper Miguel Calero.
“I think it was a little tough
that we have to play three days after
meeting are toughest opponent (the
Los Angeles Galaxy),” Razov
said. “That puts us in a tough
spot. I think in the first half, we
could have been up two, three to zero.
We could have put them away and we
didn’t.
“We let a good team off the
hook in the 20-minute span where they
had the two goals was all they had.
They we’re fortunate and we
weren’t. I’ve never seen
Cluadio miss a PK before so I feel
that we were a little unlucky.”
Pachuca responded in the 23rd minute,
evening the game at 1-1 as Marioni
accepted a tip pass from Rodriguez
and converted with a right-footed
shot for the tying tally.
Pachuca outshot Chivas by an 11-10
margin, putting seven shots on goal,
while Chivas managed just four.
“I’m extremely proud of
the way we played tonight,”
Chivas coach Preki said. “I
felt from the first moment, we were
solid. We hit the post three times,
so it was going to be one of those
nights and after all that the ref(eree)
gives a silly free kick and I think
that this is the changing point of
the whole game.
“I’m not making excuses
it was a good game and my only disappointment
is in not getting at least a point
from this game.”
